Gabo Lora

Label Founder

gabo

Since he was a kid, Gabriel had a strong fascination for imaginary worlds, playmobil, and music. His mom always said he had a good ear for music. He wasn’t too crazy about school, finding his escape in drawing fantastic superheroes. Quite good at it, he was a strange kid. He won a drawing contest when he was a kid, done by a cosmetics company. Then he won a couple other things. Who cares, he kept at it.

He feels a lot of passion for beauty. Today he is a designer in many shapes and forms, aside from being a great producer and DJ, as well as doing keyboards/live electronics for Rita Indiana & Los Misterios.

Ronald Kohn

Label Manager

ronald

Born and raised in the DR, Ronald began spinning records a bit before his 16th birthday. He bugged his best friend ever since, constantly invading his bedroom to keep practicing. Became a huge technogeek, but also open to other genres, specifically after his participation in the Red Bull Music Academy in Toronto in 2007, making him the first dominican to do so. He’s also been a music journalist contributing to 809K, the website when it comes to the scene in Dominican Republic.

Ever since, he’s had a strong focus on production, and finding his sound. You can hear 2 of his tracks on the RBMA Various Assets compilation, one techno, one more… beat-oriented. Keep your eyes peeled for more from him, under his name or some other moniker.

Cohoba

cohoba

Dominican, born and bred, Cohoba takes influences from electronica, hip-hop, jazz and soul and whirls them up in a blender, ready for vocals to float on top of. When not working with n6el as the low-riding electro hip-hop duo Botanico, or as their spaced out disco project Astro Hernandez, Cohoba can be found making beats in his room/home studio, playing DJ and live sets at hot nightlife spots in Santo Domingo, scoring music for film or theater or working with a band to inject some forward-thinking sounds into their collaborative sound palette.

Jorge Read has been a fan of music all of his life. The role of producer began in 2007 for him, and it didn’t take long before he was getting some positive reactions, being selected as one of the few to attend the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy 2010 in London. He has paved a way for himself in the world of audio, from being a label head on the premiere Dominican electronic music netlabel Stereoptico, to producing commercial jingles for various local brands, to touring Latin America performing live electronic music in an award winning theatrical production, Cohoba is a name you should remember if you hadn’t heard it yet.

n6el

n6el

Noel Lamarche had a musical childhood, growing up in the Dominican, his Sunday mornings where comprised of Beatles records and the occasional bed jumping. Being around his father’s vinyl collection proved beneficial, as he picked up bass when he was a still a strapping young lad, his involvement in bands led him to learn guitar and drums as well.

His musical style is eclectic, drawing inspiration from anything, a movie, a photograph, and idea left floating around, or nothing at all. Noel was also lucky (and talented) enough to be selected for the Red Bull Music Academy, participating in the 2008 edition in Barcelona. When asked to describe the experience in one sentence, he opted for just using one word, “FLAMBOYANT”.

Teaming up with long-time friend Cohoba, they form the duo Botanico. Keep your eyes peeled for more from n6el.

DAM!BEER

Joel began as a DJ and turntablist, later producing breaks for scratching and writing galactic beats. While other DJ’s were very into WuTang at the time, DAM!BEER was jamming to the influences of Godzilla Space Breaks and Atari 2600. He then started slowly to get more involved with hip-hop, uniting his wackier ideas with the maturity of the boombap.

He eventually started paying more attention to MIDI gear than he was to buying more records, and decided to start playing around with new ideas. Eventually he met up with the crew, providing beats, scratches and whatnot alongside the Botanico liveshows, and terrorizing clubs alongside more of his friends under the ‘Basik’ moniker. Make sure to check out more of him, be it as a DJ or beatmaker.

Inko

inko

Inko has been looking for his own sound for a while now… since 2003 to be more exact. Taking influences from darker electro, industrial, noise, post-punk, hip-hop, and a strong punk attitude when producing makes Inko hard to place in a box. Emilio tries to not make tracks the way we are used to. Residing in Norway since 2002, Inko has been holding it down from time to time with parties he arranges in his spare time from a beautiful son and the A4 work at school. You can find him around Oslo, sending money to his little brother, or sleeping on the 2 train on its way to the Bronx. On a shiny day you might even meet him at Columbus park in the Santo Domingo colonial area, drinking beers and sharing with his crew. Founder of the CassetteNegro label to release some of his own stuff, and is now happy to formally be part of the crew running the beat scene down in Dominican Republic, Stereoptico.

Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming Inko release on Stereoptico

Botanico

botanico

n6el and Cohoba team up to bring you the unstoppable beat crime duo, Botanico. They share a great chemistry when it comes to playing live, and if they actually recorded every single damn mess-around session in studios, their rooms, or even playing around at random places (anywhere they can set down their laptops and controllers), they’d have a 10 album discography.

The small-but-growing beat scene in Santo Domingo owes a lot to what they’ve done at the Stereoptico organized ‘Classroom’ parties. Botanico’s crazy livesets were a crazy new things that steadily created a following. Throw in DAM!BEER adding his own live beats and scratching, and you have a recipe for mayhem. It was great to see them play alongside Ronald at the RBMA Infosession in 2009 in Santo Domingo, heralding Cohoba’s selection for the 2010 edition in London.

Marvin Marlyn

MARVIN

Born and raised in Santiago, Chile, Alexander Zuñiga puts hard work into production and trying to bring more diversity and promote the beat-scene in his local area of San Ramon. Getting his start in the world of music at age 12 by writing lyrics and rapping with his friends and getting a bit fed up with how things worked early on, he turned his interests towards visual arts; graphic design, film-making and even some street art, but not ever straying too far from music. Getting back into it, he found himself more adept to beatboxing, and with the encouragement of his friends, he started making beats a couple of years ago.

His style is heavily marked by jazz, underground hip-hop and bits and pieces of electronica. From Jaco Pastorius to J Dilla, D’Angelo to Dam-Funk, a bunch of different influences come together for his big melding pot of spaced out funk. Enjoy this teaser of his upcoming release on Stereoptico, his first full length LP, Soy Otro Tu. And keep your eyes peeled for more from this young talent.
